In this article, we cover how to install Solitaire in Ubuntu. The package we need to install to get Solitaire is aisleriot. It is mainly a GNOME solitaire card game collection. As the name of the package itself suggests it has over 80 different solitaire games.
The collection includes Klondike, spider, freecell, canfield, etc.
Note: Following operations require Administrative rights. If you don’t have them, then contact your System Administrator for assistance.
Install Solitaire in Ubuntu
The package: aisleriot is available through the standard Ubuntu repository. Therefore, we need to first update the repository. This ensures that we get to have the latest version of the package. Hence, open a terminal and issue the following:
sudo apt update
Next, to install aisleriot:
sudo apt install aisleriot
Once it is installed, we can launch the game from our Systems’ main menu. It will be available as Aisleriot Solitaire.
Additional Info:
Apart from the GUI version, we can also run the Solitaire game from the terminal as well. The package for the same is: tty-solitaire
Install the package through the following command:
sudo apt install tty-solitaire
Now, to run the game, issue the following in a terminal:
ttysolitaire
Now, use the Up arrow, Down arrow, and Space keys to play the game. Press q to quit the game.
